Cold Rolling of Stainless Steel 304 Sheet

Cold rolling is a metalworking process where stainless steel 304 sheets are pressed into a thinner sheet by leaving them at room temperature, which is much lower than material needs to change its structure. The process not only reduces the thickness of the sheet but also makes the sheet smoother on its surface and more robust in strength.

Preparation: Stainless steel 304 sheets are hot rolled, then cooled, cleaned and rid of surface dirt and oxidation before being cold rolled.

Rolling: The cooled sheets pass through a series of rollers at high pressure that thin them out without subjecting the sheets to heat. This process thereby increases the strength and hardness of the sheets because of work hardening.
